Hemostatic Dressing, ChitoSAM 100
ChitoSAM™ 100 is a non-woven hemostatic dressing made from chitosan, a naturally occurring material derived from crustacean shells. The dressing is manufactured by spinning chitosan fibers directly into a non-woven structure designed for bleeding control applications.
Chitosan-based dressings function independently of the body’s normal clotting pathways, making them suitable for a wide range of users and situations.
Available Configurations
ChitoSAM™ 100 is available in multiple sizes to support different wound management needs:
• 4 in × 4 in Single-Ply Pad: Designed for external bleeding control of lacerations, minor cuts, and abrasions.
• 3 in × 4 in Z-Fold Dressing: Designed for wound packing applications.
• 3 in × 6 in Z-Fold Dressing: Designed for larger wound cavities and deeper packing applications.
Design Features
• Non-Woven Chitosan Construction: Spun directly from chitosan fibers to create a flexible, conformable dressing.
• Tear-Anywhere Packaging: Packaging is designed to open from any edge for faster access in time-sensitive situations.
• Independent of Clotting Cascade: Chitosan functions without reliance on the body’s normal coagulation process.
• Compact and Packable: Folded configurations support efficient storage in first aid kits, trauma kits, and emergency packs.
Material Background
Chitosan has a long history of use in emergency response, military, and first-aid applications. Chitosan-based dressings are commonly selected in situations where traditional bleeding control materials may be less suitable, including users with altered clotting function.
